  • Best Downhill Free-ride top mount longboard (Switch Ninja)

Posted on July 3, 2014 by Ryan

    dowhill longboard
    The new Switch Ninja!

For us this board is a game changer. Why? We came from a little one car garage selling blank boards without knowing an ounce of our future. Now we have a board that can stand next to the best longboard cos out there. I can’t began to tell you how proud we are to have come this far and we couldn’t do without our loyal re-peat customers. This board is a downhill free-ride longboard with an endless supply of features and perks. To the fit flush mounts to the W concave this board is ready for any task you bring its way. We will be working on a video very shortly to show how it maneuvers in action. =)

  • Longboard Maintenance

Posted on April 22, 2014 by Ryan

    Hi guys,

We often get customers asking if they have to do any regular maintenance for their longboard. The answer is yes, but not too much is required.
The main things are the truck bolts and bearings. After the first couple of days from receiving your brand new longboard it's good to re-tighten every bolt on your board. The reason is because when a board is first assembled it's not a assembled with your weight on the board. After you start skating the board for the first couple of days the bolts get re-adjusted and often get a little loose. The good news is that you only have to re-tighten your bolts once every six months or so depending on how much you skate.

The second longboard maintenance you should be aware of is cleaning your bearings. Over time your bearings start collecting little grains of dirt, pebbles and sand. The best lubricate to use is bicycle chain oil. Spin your wheel and pour a couple of drops in. If your wheel is caked on tar and crusting then you should probably take your bearings out pour about a 1/4 cup of bicycle oil in a cup. Put some rubber gloves on and swish the bearing around and spin them with your hands. It's not a good idea to use WD-40 or any other de-greaser because it doesn't lubricate them it only cleans them. Try to dry the out side of the bearings before you put them back in your wheels.

Thanks for reading and if you have any questions please leave a comment.

  • Talega San Clemente longboarding event.

Posted on February 4, 2014 by Ryan

We had so much fun at the Talega longboard event in San Clemente, CA. About 30 longboarders showed up to shred the winding blocked off street. We met a lot new faces and took some great slide photos. The Talega hills are more for freeriding than downhill because of how short and sweet the run is. If you haven't been there you should check it out. The great thing about this place is that you don't get kicked out a motorcycle cop creeped right by us and didn't say a word. I would say that pretty sweet. Here are some photos of the event.

    Orange County Longboarding

    orange county longboards

If you’re a longboader from Orange County then you’ll probably know that a longboard spot isn’t exactly easy to come by. We often get emails asking if we know any spots in the OC and the answer is always the same “You need to head for the hills”. There is no sarcasm in that; you literally need to head for the hills. Here in Huntington Beach where our warehouse is located isn’t exactly

longboard heaven, it’s as flat as a door and it sucks. If we skate during the week we can’t travel too far because we are smack dab in the mecca of freeway traffic and when we do finally make to our destination its 30 minutes until night fall.

It’s not as bad as it seems, on the weekends are when we can eat our desert. If your living or you have stayed anywhere in Orange County then you’ll know that you’re pretty much held captive and can only escape on the weekends. We charge up the go-pro, pack up our camera bag, grab our boards and get the hell out of dodge. Our spot seeking techniques are as sophisticated as looking out of our car window and pulling over if anything catches our eye.

We have spent more time searching for stops in Orange County then Luis and Clark seeking out land in our beloved nation. Okay that’s an exaggeration but it feels that way. From our extensive longboard spot finding research we now have a weekend warrior plan that we stick to and this is where the “head for the hills” comes in. We found some spots in the north side of Irvine and Mission Viejo, but we find most of our gems up in the canyons around Foothill Ranch, Anaheim Hills, and Yorba Linda and if you really want to venture out then checkout Silverado Canyons. Silverado Canyons has some pretty sick bike trails that get really squirrely and steep but we mainly go for the winding isolated roads.

We are only sharing our experiences and opinions on the matter. This writing is no way shape or form speaking for all Orange County longboarders. Others could have opposite experiences we would not want to conflict with their opinions.

With all that being said, let’s go skate! We are always looking for new longboarders to skate with so shoot us an email or call us if you want to go skate. We are also looking for new riders so if you have a video and are pretty good at downhill freeride send us a link.

    Thanks guys
    Ehlers team

  • What’s in the line-up for Ehlers Longboards 2014!

Posted on November 12, 2013 by Ryan

We are near finishing up our 3rd year this Christmas. We came along way since the one car garage days and are about to come up big in 2014. We have been in the works for months on new and innovative downhill designs. We are experimenting with different shape technologies to bring a new experience to our customer base. We want board shapes to mold to your feet for confidence and more stability.

We are going to tighten up the line-up for the downhill- freeride, traditional and cruiser divisions by taking away and adding shapes. We are having 5 drop downs 5 drop throughs 5 downhill directional boards for our downhill-freeride line-up. Each board will have their own custom graphic similar to the LRV1 and LRV2 series.

The new Road Runner will have double concave and its own custom graphic by Feb 14. We are working on the new Dexter model which will be a switch downhill directional similar to the Road Runner but with mirrored nose for the tail. We are going to mirror the Road Runner nose and make the nose and tail the same. Dexter is short for ambidextrous meaning both ways.

As for wheels, the new 77mm six star stone ground 81a sliding American Racers Zazas will be ready for down- hilling by Dec 10th this year. We currently do not have a big sliding wheel in our portfolio and can’t wait for wheels to be finished.

We are currently working to finish the Free Soul Trucks website also.

Now sponsoring! We are going to start looking for longboard skaters to skate for us. We are going to have four spots open for sponsorship which will include free products and international longboard magazine exposure.
