Longboarding in CA
We are on a quest to film our first real longboard video and have been searching for the perfect spots all around Orange County. We got lucky finding this spot because it was already waxed and ready to go. It’s the perfect longboard grind because you can ride grind up it and fall off the back side easily. We just starting to film last month and have about 20 clips so far but it’s going good considering we can only film on the weekends because we have to ship out boards all week. The video will hopefully be ready in a couple of months and be about 10 minutes long or so.
This is Shane Johnston doing the ride-grind to flamingo grind at the rainbow grind in Fountain Valley, California last weekend. We call it the rainbow grind because the curb arcs like a rainbow. He had to go almost full speed to get over the upward arc. He’s skating the drop down drop through series.
We found a down hill gem the other day while exploring the Newport Coast's back hills. We randomly drove up to the city water facility and low and behold we got lucky finding this perfect slider hill. The ground was actually perfect. We shot some footage with the new gopro2 and it came out pretty good. Here's a photo of the hill.
This pintail is 38” long and 10” wide and is one of the easier and effortless boards to skate. With absolutely no flex this board is as sturdy as an ox. I always recommend this board for people looking to get an easy to cruise longboard. This board is great for people getting into longboarding and the experienced longboarders who are looking for a nice a sturdy board for tricks and slides. This board is definitely the thickest board in our inventory and holds the most weight up to about 350 LBs.
Why are Ehlers longboards so inexpensive!? That’s the question I have been getting since I started in 2010. The answer is, I only sell directly to customers. When customers go into shops like active, zumies or other board shops to purchase a board. The board has already been marked up two times. Most big longboarding companies sell to distributors for their profit and then the distributors sell to the shops for their profit. So by the time the longboard sits on the shelf it has already been marked up several times.
We have more new stuff going on with Ehlers Longboards. We now have our logo screen printed on the grip tape. We are currently in the process of shooting photos every time a board goes out so we can capture it for the website. Most styles will be done by the end of the month. Here are some examples of new grip logos.
New shape coming soon! I just got our new prototype finished today. They are in production as we speak and will be ready in two weeks. It’s a drop through double kick or longboard blank decks, the nose and tail rise up for more advanced tricks. You can regular and nose Manuel on this board along with shuvits and any other tricks you may have up your sleeve. The board is 100% Canadian maple and made in California. The belly is cambered for a nice spring feeling, and keep your gullwing sidewinders at home because this beast is built to carve like no other
I wanted to personally say thank you to David for such a great review. Here's what he said.
I have the greatest respect for Ryan Ehlers. I showed up at his shop unannounced and even though he was very busy he took the time to set-up my son with a custom longboard. He allowed Kenny (my son) to choose exactly what he wanted down to the color of the bearings. We returned a bit early and got to see Ryan at work assembling Kenny's board. Once again, he was very gracious and skilled - that's why I returned to buy another longboard for myself. This guy is a real pro and a down to earth class-act. I have skated for over 30 years and I can tell you that these boards are 100% professional grade - right down to the optional gull wing trucks. Ryan's boards are just as good - if not better - than anything you'll find in a pro shop. And, as mentioned, you get the added benefit of choosing exactly what you want.
Thanks again David

GOOD NEWS!! It took it's own sweet time but the longboard has arrived. My son (who is 17) was totally pumped (as was I). By the time we got to the post office (that's where we had to pick it up) it was cold, dark and about 30F (Welcome to Canada and oh,yah the surfing sucks).
We got home and we took it out of the box...Ryan, what a fantastic board...well worth the wait. Black on the bottom, white wheels natural wood top with the clear grit...really beautiful. Really nicely designed. Two seconds later my son was riding down the middle of our street. There he was with the street lights casting his shadow and that 30F clear, cold air not even a worry as he cruised down the paved wave.
Thanks Ryan, I don't know if this will mean anything to you, but I grew up in Huntington Beach in the late '60s and early '70s and I was one of those skateboard kids. About thirty minutes ago the arrival of your board brought all those feelings back to me and to see my son
I recently received an email from Daniel at ASU thought I would share..
I received my locker board on Monday and I love it! I am new to skating but a seasoned snowboarder and I couldn't have made a better decision. I wanted to let you know that I found your company using Craigslist here in Phoenix. ASU is a huge longboarder school and many students utilize skateboards for travel. As a result, you should continue posting your information and ads on Craigslist. You might even consider running an ad in the ASU student newspaper because your prices and product will surely spark some interest. Today I alrea
This is the new drop down Canadian maple complete. The drop downs are getting more and more popular because of how you feel when you’re riding them. They curve downward so you’re lower to the ground, picture a hammock swaying back and forth. The reverse kingpin trucks give you the ability to carve into sharper turns. The drop down deck is 10 plies of strong Canadian maple and can hold up to 300 LBs. Enjoy =)
Welcome the new fiberlight fiber glass cruiser to the inventory. This is a hybrid deck made
I just added an all new super mini complete skateboard to the family its 7” X 25” just an inch over 2 feet. Don’t let the size of this puppy fool you, it cruises just as fast as the rest. It’s build for portability and putting into lockers or under desks. Although the deck is skinnier than the others it can still maneuver and carve like the rest. The deck is made from %100 Canadian maple wood and is strong as oak if you’re looking for something small, fast, and smooth look no further.

When it comes to price verses quality the new fiberlight drop through series takes the #1 spot. Made from real fiber glass the deck has a firm and comfortable flex feel making every carve light and smooth.
